Breast Cancer
Breast cancer originates in the breast tissue, most commonly in the ducts or lobules. It is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women worldwide and can also affect men. Subtypes include:
• Invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) – most common type
• Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC)
• Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) – non-invasive
• Inflammatory breast cancer – aggressive and rare
• Triple-negative breast cancer
• HER2-positive breast cancer
Sinonasal Cancer
Sinonasal cancer refers to malignancies arising in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses, including the maxillary, ethmoid, frontal, and sphenoid sinuses. These tumors are rare but often aggressive due to late diagnosis and proximity to the skull base and orbit.
Intraocular Melanoma (Uveal Melanoma)
Intraocular melanoma is the most common primary eye cancer in adults, originating from melanocytes in the uveal tract (iris, ciliary body, or choroid). It is distinct from skin melanoma but shares similar cellular origins.
Synovial Sarcoma
Synovial sarcoma is a rare and aggressive soft tissue sarcoma that most commonly arises near joints, tendons, or bursae, especially in the arms and legs. Despite the name, it does not originate from synovial cells. It affects young adults and adolescents, with a distinct chromosomal translocation
Penile Cancer
Penile cancer begins in the skin or tissues of the penis, most often on the glans or foreskin. Though rare, it can be aggressive if not caught early. The most common type is squamous cell carcinoma.
Basal Cell Carcinoma of the Eyelid
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) of the eyelid is the most common malignant eyelid tumor, especially in fair-skinned older adults. It arises from the basal cells of the epidermis and most frequently affects the lower eyelid.
Glioblastoma
Glioblastoma (also known as glioblastoma multiforme or GBM) is the most aggressive type of primary brain tumor. It originates from astrocytes — star-shaped cells that support nerve cells — in the brain or spinal cord. GBM accounts for about 15% of all brain tumors and is known for its rapid growth and resistance to treatment.
Lymphoma (Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin)
Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system, part of the immune system. It begins in lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. There are two main types:
Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL): Characterized by Reed-Sternberg cells
Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL): A diverse group that includes B-cell and T-cell lymphomas
HL tends to be more predictable and curable, while NHL varies widely in behavior.
Appendix Cancer (including Carcinoid Tumors)
Appendix cancer is a rare form of gastrointestinal cancer that begins in the appendix, a small pouch attached to the colon. It includes a variety of tumor types, ranging from slow-growing carcinoid tumors to aggressive adenocarcinomas.
Types include:
• Carcinoid tumors (neuroendocrine tumors)
• Appendiceal adenocarcinoma
• Mucinous neoplasms (can lead to pseudomyxoma peritonei)
• Signet ring cell carcinoma (rare and aggressive)
